Rayne U16s 3 - 3 Beacon Hill U16s
The boys started the match superbly continuing the good football from last week we scored two excellent work team goals both well finished off by Fin.
The momentum of the match changed with the last kick of the first half when Rayne pulled one back with a speculative shot from outside the box. So, instead of feeling confident going into the second half, you could visibly see the drop off in performance.
Rayne got very lucky with their equaliser. The otherwise excellent referee missed a blatant two-handed shove on Jake which led to them scoring. But, we still managed to cause problems with Ethan, in particular, bursting through the defensive line. One chance was initially saved but Fin's follow-up was turned home by Lennon for his first goal for the team.
Lightning struck twice though when a succession of corners and long throws finally broke our resistance with Rayne again scoring with the last touch of the half.
They celebrated like they'd won the World Cup which I think shows just how lucky they were to steal a point from this game. But, that's football though and we've done the same to other teams before.
Galleywood Hawks 3 - 2 Beacon Hill U14s
The U14s didn't hit the heights of the previous two weeks. Playing uphill and into the wind, going 2-0 down within 5 minutes is a tough start to recover from. But, credit to the boys they began to dominate their bigger opponents.
Goals from Ben Large and Max Walton ensured we went in level at half-time but, given the number of chances we missed, including 2 within side the 6-yard box, we really should have been ahead.
A defensive lapse early in the second half gave Galleywood the lead and despite our best efforts, we couldn't get the goal our play deserved. It wasn't one-way traffic. Galleywood has some big, strong, fast players. On the counter, they are tough to defend against and the boys stood up to them. But, our passing game, which has been very impressive of late, wasn't quite there. Some great lessons for the boys.
Beacon Hill Rovers Girls U12 4 - 2 Lawford Junior Girls U12 Lionesses
Lawford were the visitors to the Hill for this top-of-the-table clash. In tricky conditions, both teams started positively, but it was Lawford who took the lead after 4 minutes. A through ball caused problems, and despite Tilly saving the initial shot, the rebound went in off the Lawford player. Beacon reacted well to the setback and was level within 3 minutes, Elizabeth sending Erin W away, who finished well into the far corner.
Despite the 7 & 11 being a threat for Lawford, the Beacon girls stuck to their defensive duties with Scarlett dealing with everything thrown at her. Beacon eventually took the lead after 13 minutes, Lilly-Dee’s clearance beating the high press and Erin W racing away and again slotting past the keeper. After 22 minutes it was Megan’s turn to become provider as Erin W was first to the ball and completed her hat-trick, giving Beacon a 3-1 half-time lead.
Beacon took their energy into the second half and some good pressing forced Lawford into conceding a corner. Lilly-Dee landed the resulting set play just beyond the penalty spot for the onrushing Scarlett to hit her shot into the top corner for 4-1. Beacon continued to create chances and could have scored a couple more before a late spell of pressure saw Lawford’s 7 nip in and finish from a tight angle for 4-2.
Beacon have now taken 18 points from their first 6 games, setting a good platform for the rest of the season.
